Huge Turtle

Kay came home yesterday and said that there was a big turtle up the road a bit in the middle of the street. So we grab the camera and the boys and head up the road. We get to where the turtle is and I can hardly beleive that it is a turtle in the road. It looks more like a giant tortiose that what you would expect from a turtle.

I would not usually say that I think of a turtle as menacing but this guy could fall into that catagory. Look at those claws.

Here are the boys standing by him. He is nearly the size of Peanut!

He was literally in the middle of the road. While we were there actually debating what we could do with him a few guys in a truck came by and the had shovels and gloves. One guy suggested scooping him up with a shovel to get him out of the road. The other guy put on a pair of gloves and picked him up and carried him off of the road.

The turtle was not too happy to be picked up but did seem happy to be in the grass, well as happy as turtles ever seem I guess.

The Look

Jake's personality is really starting to show through. Sometimes in the form of a bit of a temper and then sometimes in pure sweetness.

Day in the Life of Jake

I wanted to chronicle an ordinary day in the life of Jake at 16 mo old, a snapshot into his life right now.

Journaling reads: Jake you are growing so fast I can hardly believe it. So I wanted to capture a day in your life at 16 months old. Some days we do things a little differently but for the most part your schedule stays pretty consistent. 8:00-9:00 am You get up (you are usually awake before this but you and Will just talk to each other and laugh until I get you up), get dressed and go downstairs for breakfast. Breakfast is your favorite meal of the day and you will usually eat whatever I fix, cereal, oatmeal, toast, pancakes, etc. 9:00-10:0 0am I clean up after breakfast and I would like for you to play, sometimes this happens but many times you follow me around asking for “uppie” and want to be held. I often stop cleaning and hold you for a while and then you will go and play. I also try to read the Bible aloud to you and Will during this time you like to go and grab a book and sit in my lap and listen 10:00- 11:00 am We usually play outside for about 1/2 hour and then come inside to watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. You get really tired around this time so you sit on my lap and usually fall asleep while we are watching T.V. We are officially down to one nap, but you need this time of rest and sometimes a little cat nap.11:00- 12:00 pm Lunchtime You eat lunch pretty well depending on what we have and then you and Will play for a while. 12:00-1:00pm Second Lunch. This is the time when Daddy and Grandpa come in for lunch and you love to mooch, uh I mean share with them. You will share things off of daddy’s plate that I can’t get you to eat off of your own plate! Today it was Mac and Cheese and hot dogs. 1:00-3:30 or 4:00 pm Nap time You are usually really tired and take a long nap. 4:00-5:00 pm Snack time and run errands We often go to the chiropractor or run other errands during this time so snack is on the go. Tonight we ran into New Richmond to get Pizza. 5:00-6:00 pm Dinner Tonight we had pizza you fussed at first but then were fine after you tried it. 6:00-7:00 pm Play- You and Will had a great time playing with a box tonight as well as playing outside with Grandma with your “park” 7:00-8:00 pm Play and have snack, snack is another thing that you eat really well- tonight we had goldfish and a few M&M for a special treat. 8:00 pm go to bed At 8 we get you ready for bed: change diapers and clothes, brush your teeth, say a prayer, and put you to bed. You go to sleep very well

Using a spoon. . .

We have been letting Jake use a spoon more and more. It is much more messy but it is working out well. He loves it and will eat things he would not eat if I tried to feed him. It is so funny to watch him eat because he scoops up his food and then opens his mouth really wide and aims his spoon in. He is very proud of himself for using his spoon and wants one for every meal even if we are having sandwiches!

I think I may be a City Girl

At one point I told Jonah, with tears in my eyes I am sure, I am a mountain girl. I have lived near the mountains my whole life, I love to see the snow capped peaks, I love to go up into the mountains and smell the pine cones baking in the sun, I love the Aspen trees. I could go on but it is difficult to conjure up these wonderful memories when all I can smell is pooh! I kid you not I am sitting here writing this and it is a warm and beautiful day outside so I have the windows open. And all I can smell is pooh. They are planting corn in the fields across the street so they have been spreading manure. . . lovely. Along with this we have been finding ticks I would say everywhere but this would really be an exaggeration, but we have found two on Peanut and I found one crawling on Will the other day. This has caused me to freak O-U-T. I do not like the idea of things crawling on me and for this reason always sleep with a sheet over me even when it is really hot, in my mind if I have at least a sheet over the bugs cannot crawl on me (please do not tell me otherwise). So the thought of ticks is causing me to constantly be scratching my hair and feeling that crawly feeling you know what I mean? Oh and we are out here in the mean the middle of no where and of course there are mice too. None currently in the house be there could be. . . I am no good with these things. In addition to these insect and rodent issues, it doesn't get cool, you know that wonderful coolness that you get in Colorado even if it has been a really warm day, at night. Now of course it cools off a bit at night, but at this time of the year we would have still been sleeping under a comforter and blanket but here I am pushing them off already. These thought and series of events have caused me to conclude that I am not a mountain girl, but I am also not a farm girl, I am not tough, I am a city girl, and now I am stuck in the middle of no where. One bright spot is that you hardly ever hear cars. . . I do love not hearing the cars!

Happy Mother's Day

I wish all of you a wonderful and most of all Peaceful Mother's day! I know some days are a challenge just to get through and some days are filled with so much joy you can hardly believe it. Through it all, the joys and the troubles, it is a wonderful thing to be a mom. For me, nothing can compare to it and it is the most wonderful right of being a woman!

Eating Brown Cookies

Last week I made Peanut Butter Cookies (we can all eat peanut butter now . . . yea!). While they were baking I got a bit distracted (as it was just about lunchtime and I was baking cookies, cleaning up from the mixing of the cookies, and trying to get the boys' lunch ready) and was unable to get them out of the oven exactly on time. One pan ended up a little overdone ~oops! I really don't like the burnt overdone ones and neither does Jonah, but there were just a few so I saved them thinking maybe someone would eat them ("My Grandpa would like these, I thought to myself") So Will ended up getting a burnt overdone one and loved it! So much so that every time I got the cookies out he would say, “I would like a brown one please!” I guess Will comes by his love of brown cookies naturally since my Grandpa is his namesake!
